About Kayfabe Diary
Hi! I’m Marko Simonen. I’ve been involved in Finnish pro wrestling since April 2010.
People know me as the photographer, but there’s a bigger picture. My first job was to serve as a referee, but soon after, I offered my help in organizing.
I also worked as a wrestler, all the while finishing my studies to be a photographer. Some of my earliest wrestling photos date back to 2010.
Graphic design and video production were a natural addition to photography.
Around 2019, SLAM! Wrestling Finland was born, and I’m a founding member. We’ve promoted international-level pro wrestling shows in three different countries.
It never felt right to just watch local wrestling; I wanted to help build it.
It’s been an interesting ride, and I’ve probably forgotten half of it. That’s why I wanted to set up this website, to slowly start going through my folders and see what’s there.
Kayfabe Diary is my visual language of the squared circle, a creative archive forged in the trenches, along with random stories. This is the intersection of performance and reality.
You can also find me on Instagram @kayfabe_diary, and if you wish, you can take a look at my commercial work.
